Her story

Roya is from Badakhshan, the mountains whose lapis lazuli colored half the world’s masterpieces. She would tell you the more interesting export is mathematics.

She works through problems for the pleasure of it, the kind of student teachers describe with a certain look. The decree that closed her school did not close the aptitude.

A sponsorship connects her to a classroom that cannot be shut by decree: remote lessons, materials, and a teacher who can keep up with her, for $30 a month.

What she needs

Where every dollar of Roya's sponsorship lands:

  • A classroom

A seat that reaches the mountains of Badakhshan, where the connection is weakest.

  • Mathematics, properly taught

Real instruction past what any book in her village can offer a girl who loves math.

  • A teacher

A teacher who can keep pace with a student who works through problems for fun.

To protect the girls we serve, student profiles are anonymized and representative of our first cohort. Every sponsorship funds a real student, and sponsors are matched as enrollment completes. Your gift is earmarked for this student. If her circumstances change, it moves to another student in the same program.
